The end of summer might evoke depression in some, but the vegetable bounty is something worth celebrating. Burpee's two-day fest will include an on-site farmers market, lectures and workshops hosted by cookbook author Laura Schenone, a guided garden tour and kid-friendly contests and activities. Bar Ferdy is celebrating its third b-day with an evening of discounted grub and Spanish dancing. To kick things off, the restaurant will host a Yelp event during which elite members get to snack on free paella and sangria from 5 to 7. After that, a Flamenco dancer will perform while diners enjoy sangria pitchers (half-off!) and cocktails and paella outdoors. Fork's inviting guests to meet the owners of Perkasie's Branch Creek Farm, the restaurant's primary produce supplier for the last 12 years, for a farm tour and dinner. Farmers Mark and Judy Dornstreich will lead a tour of Branch Creek (limited to 20) and serve a light lunch before guests head to Old City to enjoy a four-course meal (limited to 40) prepared by chef Terence Feury. The menu will include dishes like herbed ravioli, heirloom tomato salad, arctic char and gelato. Guests can choose to participate in all of the day's festivities or simply show up at dinnertime. This tasting will feature cocktails from the July 28 ROOT mix-off at Silk City paired with five courses infused with Art in the Age's peculiar spirit. The dinner will feature eats like seared scallops with ROOT and black truffle foam and ROOT-brined pork loin. (Check out the full menu on Meal Ticket.) Drinks will include the "Bomba Shack," a spiced rum, crème coconut and ROOT concoction; and the dessert cocktail "Dust and Beans," featuring ROOT, Frangelico and espresso. Check out the Heirloom Tomato Festival and find out all you can from local farmers, tomato experts and more. The free Terrain event will feature a book signing and lecture with The Heirloom Tomato author Amy Goldman, local produce from the area's best farmers, a tomato tasting, kid-friendly workshops, an a la carte barbecue and an evening visit from Twin Lakes Brewery. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Fair Food Farm Stand, which’ll be on the scene to discuss its sustainable initiatives.
