If ProTools is afflicting musicians with laziness, Corey Duncan has avoided the epidemic. Rather than build his new project out of synthetic instruments and sound loops, the former Pattern is Movement guitarist has spent the last year and a half amassing a small orchestra to record and perform in Oh! Pears. The dozen-strong ensemble includes strings, woodwinds, backing singers and a guitar trio (and possibly a page-turner). Their resulting sound could easily be labeled as early PIM as played symphonically, and while there's certainly nothing wrong with that, we're hearing a richness and texture that's exciting in its own right.
