The Headhouse Farmers Market shouldn't be perturbed by its temporary neighbor moving in this Sunday. After all, it'll be the fourth annual GreenFest, whose focus this year — food sustainability — is the same as Headhouse's weekly goal. "It's best to have as little distance from farm to plate as possible," says Jen Bendik, GreenFest's executive producer. "The more people provide food for themselves, the less we have to travel, thus reducing carbon emissions."

To give visitors a head start on eating locally, Yvonne Jones will demonstrate how to start a garden during any time of the year, whether you're living in a Lancaster County farm or in a Center City studio. This year's eco-friendly festivities will also feature more than 200 green business and food exhibits, earthly sounds from musical acts like Bohemian Sunrise and Carolyn Malachi, a guided herbal tour through streets surrounding the market, and a clothing swap where you can trade your slightly used threads with others.

Bendik also encourages families to attend. Kids can learn to become greener and healthier, she says, by participating in activities such as pint-size yoga sessions and a pottery class using locally dug and recycled clay. "This will be a fun way to teach them something," says Bendik, "without letting them know they're actually learning."
