You rode your bicycles naked and Twittered along with the Fringe; man, your gall is gorgeous. I like you. In fact, I like you so much, act like Brad Pitt in Troy and take this — it's yours, this Icepack here. As the week is tiny and my back-to-school shopping isn't yet finished (I need protractors), this is all about you. Not you thinking about me (though I can't stop you from dreaming), but you. Just you.
► You're so goshdamned magnanimous, you gave your first mention to charity: Filbert Street's Field House is all about cancer programs in Africa a la Philly Rocks 2009 and the Love Hope Strength Foundation. Sept. 10, Glenn Tilbrook (Squeeze), Mike Peters (the Alarm), James Stevenson (Gene Loves Jezebel, charity or not, WTF?!) and other formerly teased-high-n-hair-sprayed types play F-House to benefit the National Bone Marrow Registry. Pay up or they'll play longer.
► Oh Terry White, you late of Union Trust chef-and-co-CEO, you. We hear you're taking over the space that was/is/was J.L. Sullivan's on Broad and making it into Tavern on Broad, a boyishly handsome, rockingly tasteful (why that sounds just like you) literal meat-market-with-drinks. Call me, Ter.
► Cranky Philly indie-music/alt blues maven and playwright Adam Arcuragi's isn't so pissy anymore, at least not since Sept. 8 when he dropped his new CD, I Am Become Joy which happens to feature collaborations with Dawn Landes and War on Drugs. Check npr.org for free streaming downloads by the end of this week.
► WHOWHATWHERE: This whole time Rudd, Reese and Owen've been supping at Stephen Starr's nosh spots, where the hell's director James L. Brooks eaten? Isn't he hungry? Though spies saw Bruce Willis, daughter Rumer and his ex, Demi Moore, at Parc, I'm more impressed he was caught having an omelette at Little Pete's, though he should've had the Monte Cristo.
► Remember that Raw Dogs opening I referred to weeks ago — the Bachman/Bash ex-boys in action at Second and Morris? It's Sept. 12, 9 p.m.-midnight. If you can prove you share their same ZIP code, you get an open bar and DJ Jay Ski.
► And 'member how I said Dan Contarino, after getting his Facebook page deluged with some 700+ friends quizzing him about the where's 'n' whens of his "downtown" gay night, was starting gay Sundays at G Lounge? Starts Sept 20.
► Like tofu 'n' Tolstoy? Pynchon n' Pequea Valley yogurt? Molly Russakoff's newly reconfigured Ninth Street effort is for you. Food for All will run concessions at the Bella Vista Natural Foods/Molly's Bookstore venture, while in the spirit of neighborhood bodegas, she'll sell used books, DVDs, local art and music like she did when she owned 9th Street Books & Records in the '80s.
►Sherman Arts’ Rich Wexler isn't Large Marge no-mo'. He’s Shecky. No, Schlomo. No, no Yakov. VJ/DJ Yakov. And though he’s video-jamming the Fringe’s Fairmount Ave. bar spot nightly, come Sept. 11 he’ll spin soul/funk there, too. Plus he’s got a DJ/VJ appointment at National Mechanics Sept. 21 with Conversations with the Enemies and Chemistry Music (shout it like Thom Dolby — science!) and a Sept. 23 co-show with Drugbunny Inc. at Trocadero starring tranny/LGBTQ faves Lynnee Breedlove, Tiny Dirty Dancer in the Dark, Leda & the Swans and comic-emcee Danny Ozark. Ozark, too, has his old-school hip-hop DJ genes working as he takes to DJ-ing between acts at South Street’s Laff House every Fri.-n-Sat.
➤ Carrie Nork Minelli (of Cashman & Associates) and Dino Minelli (of Public House) just haaaad a baaaby. And you have to see the baaaaby, Carolina Grace. Congrats.
➤ Eric Paraskevas is opening terra (small "t") at the spot below Tavern on Camac at 243 S. Camac St., which was, until very recently, The Underground. He just remodeled the 40-seater for seared black cod with rosemary almond puree, olive oil and red shiso. "I usually let my guests decide my signature dishes, but the black cod is a great starter," claims Paraskevas. "Seared scallops, broken red pepper vinaigrette, goat cheese polenta cake, mushroom sauté — that’s a great entrée." Paraskevas says everything fell into place quickly and a soft opening is expected for Sept. 10.
➤ WHOWHATWHEREMORE: Jack Nicholson was spied noshing on a burger and fries at Rouge after filming James L. Brooks’ no-name-as-yet flick at the Phoenix. Wanda Sykes was at Lucky Strike on Monday night.
