Saxophonist Seth Meicht left Philly for NYC a few years back, and judging by the lineup he's bringing back with him this weekend, he's since made some impressive friends. Meicht is recording a CD at UArts with his aptly named Big Sound Ensemble, an octet which brackets the leader's tenor with Charles Evans' baritone (which he recently showcased on a multi-track solo disc) and Darius Jones' fierce alto. Meicht's brother Aaron, as usual, will supply the trumpet, alongside legendary Downtowner Herb Robertson; trombonist Steve Swell, bassist Adam Lane and punk-jazz drum aggressor Mike Pride fill out the band.
