Talk Like a Pirate Day may have started as a joke between friends in 1995, but it's since become an internationally recognized holiday. And where better to celebrate such a briny event in Philly than at Independence Seaport Museum?
At the museum's celebration, kids can learn how to talk like a pirate, fire cannons and wrangle cutlasses la Johnny Depp. The tykes also get to take home booty like rub-on tattoos; make their own eye patches, hats and trusty parrot companions; and watch an interactive pirate play performed by History First Hand.
Parents and other adult pirate fans are welcome to come dressed for the event, too, even if the focus is the little ones. "We welcome pirates of all ages. Talk Like a Pirate Day was started by two older guys who thought it would be fun," says events director Michele DiGirolamo. "I'm sure beer was involved."
