If you've hit a dancefloor within the last year, you've been witness to Pilooski. This charming man from Paris remixed Frankie Valli's "Beggin'" into an electronic Northern Soul howler, scoring an Adidas TV campaign for his troubles (and a few more dollars in Valli's pocketbook) and a same-sounding mix for The Pointer Sisters' "Send Him Back" out of the deal. Still, the DJ who's also laid hands on cuts by Prince and Elvis is a freak for the German muzik and has done likewise for tracks by Can and Amon Duul. "He's not your ordinary DJ by any means and has a deep interest in weirdo, avant music and early sci-fi films," says his friend, Michael Kassler-Taub — KT of the trio of local spinners behind the Broadzilla DJ crew. If those guys think he's a weirdo, Pilooski must be mad. Can't wait to hear the four of them frighten one another.
