What started as a conversation at Tattooed Mom about Jesus being the most famous zombie quickly turned into the legendary Easter Zombie Crawl on South Street. The annual crawl, however, wasn't enough for horror fanatics. "You can't please the undead," says creator Robert Drake. "They wanted more." And so Zombie Prom was created to satiate brain-hungry Philadelphians. Hosted by the Troc, the third annual "kick-off of the Halloween season" should be bigger than ever, with about 800 zombies expected to attend. Drake, pointing to his parties and the Mummers, argues that Philly is hungry for outlandish events and a chance to be wild, but lacks enough willing venues. "The love for the undead in Philly is quite strong," says Drake, who is also the producer of WXPN's Kids Corner. At the Zombie Prom, bands Live Not on Evil and The Young Werewolves will provide music to shake your rotting rump to; and if you're unsure how to make yourself look like you just rose from the dead, Terror Behind the Walls will have makeup booths available. There will also be a crowning of the Zombie Prom king and queen, who are determined by the event's organizers. Not only do the winners receive prize packs, but they also get to lead the crawl next Easter with Philly's own Zombie Jesus, Gil Cnaan. What more could a couple of living dead lovebirds ask for?
