Pizzeria Stella
215 Lombard St., 215-320-8000, pizzeriastella.net

Open since Tuesday, Pizzeria Stella is Stephen Starr's entrée into the pizzeria game — the focal point of the casual 80-seater (room for 45 outside) is the 7,000-pound wood-burning oven (above) that can turn out the finished product in less than 2 minutes. There's beer/wine, antipasti, salads and a selection of Italian meats on the menu, but we're mostly fixated on the pizzas, which cull characteristics from both Neopolitan and Brooklyn-style pies — there are a dozen 12-inchers on the menu, from standards like the Margherita and Bianca to the decadent Vongole (clams, guanciale, broccoli rabe) and Tartufo (black truffle, fontina, Parm, runny egg). They'll do 11 to 11 Sunday to Thursday and 11 to midnight Friday and Saturday. Click here to download a PDF of the full menu. More pics on Meal Ticket.

Flying Monkey Deuce
1112 Locust St., 215-592-6505, flyingmonkeyphilly.com

Rebecca Michaels, who owns Flying Monkey Patisserie in the Reading Terminal Market, opened this Wash West coffeehouse sequel this past Monday. Michaels is offering all of her signature sweets — cookies, cupcakes, dessert bars, brownies — in addition to breakfast baked goods, La Colombe coffee and Remedy teas. Take advantage of the outdoor patio before it gets too chilly. Check out pics on Meal Ticket.

D.P. Dough
33 S. 40th St., 215-796-9809, dpdoughphilly.com

D.P. Dough is their name, and serving calzones to extremely intoxicated people is their game — the West Philly location of the college-focused chain, owned by Jacquie and Jason Hembrey and Mike and Scott Nagao, specializes in a huge variety of 'zones with all manner of ingredients stuffed in (chicken, sausage, eggs, veggies, etc.). You can customize your own, too. They deliver and stay open late; current hours are Sunday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. Follow the shop at twitter.com/dpdoughphilly for one-off specials and 'zone-based tomfoolery.
