As much a love letter to Alfred Hitchcock as Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello, Charles Busch's Psycho Beach Party focuses on a surfer girl who has a nasty secret: an alter ego named Ann who wants to be "dominatrix empress of the planet Earth.'' Director Dave Ebersole's goal was to take the Allens Lane production back to its minimalist, East Village, waaaay-off-Broadway roots. But to Ebersole, low-tech doesn't mean low quality. "It's a spoof," he says. "But it's not just a big drag show. There's a little more meat there than that."
