The idea of finding movement in stationary subjects is clearly a common factor in the work of local artists Bonnie Schorske and Diane Podolsky. When asked how Philadelphia influences her work, photographer Schorske says, "Artistically [the city] has a fun community feel to it. There's a lot of interaction between artists." Asked the same question, Podolsky, who creates mixed-media paintings, responds, "It's the pulse and the movement of the city that spills into my work." These women's work is stripped of pretension, creating images so raw they beg to be observed (as in Podolsky's House, pictured). The pieces are so still, so quiet, yet teeming with movement just below the surface.
