folk/pop

Ostensibly, this Parisian outfit (yeah, it's a duo, not a person; weird, right?) plays anti-folk, but that's pretty much the only thing "anti-" about them. For the past couple of their 10 years together, the vibe's been all sunshine kisses and wrinkly nosed optimism (sample song title, from their just-out Don't Lie About Me EP: "Baby Baby You're My Baby"), rendered with a scruffy, gee-whiz charm comparable to Jonathan Richman. Frankly, they're hardly strictly folkers, either — along with a Richman-esque fondness for calypso and '50s-style pop, their affably chatty ditties display traces of everything from klezmer to mariachi to New Orleans R&B.
