There may not be a bouncing ball to follow during Doug Elkins' Fräulein Maria, but sing-alongs certainly aren't out of the question for this Sound of Music remix. Elkins' deconstruction has great fun with those familiar tunes and beloved scenes: Maria climbs over the mountain in basketball shorts, nuns cross-dress and the von Trapp family does hip-hop. "Elkins turns the musical on its head," says Randy Swartz, executive director of the Annenberg Center's Dance Celebration series. "It's a loving tribute that gives you a lot of the warmth and feeling you got from the original but in a completely different way. ... It's funny and somehow dear."

By now, you missed it, but you should have seen it. If you liked Sound of Music, you have to love this show. Well, if you have any sense of humor you will.

It will be in NYC - soon, Dec. sometime. Check it out, well worth the trip. Or, if you can't do that, catch one of the future Dance Celebration shows - lots of variety and they are all top notch.
