Bowerbird is billing this performance as "An Outsider's Guide to Saxophone," but if the three artists on the bill can be considered outsiders, their exile is most definitely self-imposed. The highlight of the evening is undoubtedly the rare appearance of British axe man John Butcher, an improvisational intellectual whose intense minimalism works with sound on the subatomic level he studied as a physics Ph.D. He'll be joined by Swiss player Hans Koch and Philly's own Jack Wright; all three can be expected to create music that interacts delicately with the historically rich confines of Powel House.
