Big Blue Marble Bookstore sells literature of all types, but its owners have a particular fondness for the queer selection — an area of the store that's expanded in conjunction with Mount Airy's growing gay population. This modest event, held in collaboration with Giovanni's Room, aims to highlight the burgeoning community. Nine queer artists, including Saida Agostini, Cassendre Xavier, Nathan Long and Ashraf Osman, will read their prose, memoir and fiction pieces. Coordinator Maleka Fruean is quick to point out that the fest is not for rabble-rousers. "It's not a political event," she says. "But through the personal narrative of poetry, essay writing and fiction from the queer perspective, we can highlight the issues that we are currently facing as a society."Sat., Nov. 14, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., free, Big Blue Marble Bookstore, 551 Carpenter Lane, 215-844-1870, bigbluemarblebooks.com.
