For Scott Turner Schofield, being a man is much more than looking the part — it also means accepting your messy self, owning up to the truth to your mom, and ultimately risking alienation from everyone you know. In his performance piece, the transgender artist shares his experience of being a man who was born a woman through storytelling, audience participation and — get this — aerial acrobatics. During each show, the crowd is asked to call out different numbers that determine which of the 127 plot lines he'll follow, which include playing with dolls, chugging beer and battling hormones. While it seems daunting to memorize that many scripts, Schofield says he loves the opportunity to create a spontaneous, ever-changing show. "It's more fun than a challenge, really. Everyone has a story that they tell off the cuff, and that's what this show is all about."
