If you've gotta squeeze The Big Pink into a handy single-serving sorting slot, the label'd be "shoegaze," simple enough. But stopping there sells them short, because the London duo are doing more vital things in that long-stagnant milieu than anybody this side of M83, hearkening back to disregarded Brit-rock acts 10 and 20 years gone in a way that somehow sidesteps rote rehashing. Oh, and they're not kidding about the "big" part: their 4AD debut spices mountainous swaths of electro-tooled guitar haze with heaping helpings of noise, righteously block-rocking beats, and at least a coupla massive, grandstanding pop hooks. (Do yourself a favor and go download "Dominos.")
