It has a big red curtain and a long wide stage, yet rarely does ye olde Trocadero host truly theatrical works. Enter local playwright Joseph Ferron Hiatt, who, along with actor/producer Bill Lance, created a splashy musical with the burlesque rock palace in mind. "This was an opportunity to create something completely original for a theater as unique as the Trocadero," says Hiatt of his creation, The Destruction of Doré and Grey. "We wanted a performance that included all the elements we love in a show: an exciting space, a good story, quality acting, great music ... and a cocktail." It's a Romeo and Juliet-meets-Faustian tale of young musicians in love. Only rather than face the fear of angry fathers or warring siblings, this pair comes up against hell's hosts who seek to corrupt and defile those doggone singing kids. Local musical acts Drake and The Max back up the thespian talents of Hiatt, Lance, Natalie Layne Kidd, Bethany Formica Bender and Jimmy Sutherland.
