For better or worse, Fanfarlo's sound should be instantly familiar to anyone who's paid the slightest attention to the tasteful, tuneful indie rock of the past decade: the epic sweep, the nebulous rootsiness, the "eclectic" chamber-pop palette, the chugging Arcade Fire rhythms, the earnestly wailed/crooned/mewled leads (courtesy of the excellently named Simon Balthazar, who's a vocal dead ringer for Beirut's Zach Condon). But the London-based outfit — who recorded their self-released debut, Reservoir, in exotic Connecticut, USA — do it as tastefully as anyone, and more tunefully than most.
