Zack's Café
103 S. 12th St., 215-925-1804, myzackscafe.com

Megan Conlon's few-month-old café specializes in fresh-made breakfast and lunch options, from eggy sandwiches and hoagies to salads and panini — they use fresh bread, produce and sliced meats on the daily, but prices are still kept super-low, topping out at around $6. Conlon says she hopes to expand the brand locally in the near future. Right now they're open weekdays 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; check out the café's ever-changing specials at twitter.com/zackscafe

Chef Mark Smith expanded his Collingswood BYO Tortilla Press into Pennsauken in 2007, but was forced to close his second location a year later when a massive road construction project blocked off the flow of traffic — and consumers — into the South Jersey town. Now, the liquor-licensed Cantina is back in action, offering a mix of Latin plates (burritos, achiote tilapia tacos, ropa vieja, arroz con pollo) and more American options (coffee-rubbed baby-back ribs, New York strip, burgers, club sandwiches, crab pepper pot soup). Dinner hours: Tue. to Thu., 4 to 10 p.m.; Fri. and Sat., 4 to 11 p.m.; Sun., 4 to 9 p.m

>> WMD Hot Sauce | IT pro turned capsaicin entrepreneur Bobby Bolders will open WMD (World's Most Delicious), a hot sauce and spice boutique, this coming Saturday. Bolders' shop will feature a large selection of hot sauces, spices and rubs, but he's also offering the option to customize your own tongue-burning elixirs. You can select your peppers/heat level, and even design your own bottle label — a solid gift idea for the masochistic spicy-food fiend in your life. 1212 South St., 888-WMD-HTSC, wmdhotsauce.com

>> Green Eggs Café | Stephen J. Slaughter and William Bonforte hope to open their enviro-friendly bruncherie Christmas week. The 50-seat space, which was constructed with LEED-certified building products (they'll also carry biodegradable takeout containers, and plan on composting/recycling as much as possible) will serve breakfast pastries, French toast, omelettes and breakfast burritos in the a.m. and a mix of burgers/sandwiches and the like for lunch. 1306 Dickinson St.
