A brain tumor "the size of Lake Erie" is how Dave Sommer good-naturedly refers to his cancer, discovered last year in the middle of production for his band Cloud Minder's latest album, The Territory of This Contract Is the Universe. To help pay for Sommer's medical bills — roughly the size of Lake Ontario — his bandmates have rallied together local artists and musicians for a benefit show. Gene Smirnov donated his photographs of Cloud Minder; Carolynne McNeel chipped in her necklaces crafted from clock parts; and Mew Gallery pitched in various artworks and jewelry. The music performances range from Cloud Minder's instrumental rock to Monolith's ambient metal to Grammar Debate's indie pop. "Seeing that all these people do care about him ... will be as beneficial to [Sommer] as the money will be," says Bob Stokes, Cloud Minder's bassist.Fri., Dec. 18, 8 p.m.-1:30 a.m., $10, M Room, 15 W.
