2010 Butch Bear Calendar's Cover Boy Dru Bruin
Does all this talk of Santa have you itching to snuggle with a warm, fuzzy bear this winter? Dru Bruin (pictured), one of the furriest, hardest daddies in the business, will be in town offering photo ops and signing copies of his 2010 Butch Bear Calendar. Giovanni's Room owner Ed Hermance says this is Bruin's only Philly appearance, so it could be your one chance to chew on a chunky piece of celebrity man-meat this winter. Sun., Dec. 20, 5:30 p.m., free, Giovanni's Room, 345 S. 12th St., 215-923-2960, giovannisroom.com.
Brittany Lynn, our city's hardest-working drag queen, is throwing an unruly holiday bash that defies all religious creeds. Drag princesses Feressa and Crystal Tee Electra will perform, while DJ Carl Michaels serves up booty-bumping jams. Ms. Lynn, who will sing holiday parodies and do a standup routine about why Christmas blows, says she created the event so the LGBTQ crowd could enjoy a safe, nondenominational party before gathering with their families. "Most gays only experience religion when they're at home for the holidays," she says, "like when they pray for someone to get them out of there." Sun., Dec. 20, mid., free, Woody's Bar, 202 S. 13th St., 215-545-1893, woodysbar.com.
Since last spring, the monthly Queers on the Avenue events in South Philly have become one of the hottest LGBTQ parties in town — so hot, in fact, that the organizers have decided to throw an additional December fête to support the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund's toy drive, which benefits children in the HIV/AIDS unit at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Santa will be in attendance, so if you show up with a toy he may just second-guess that lump of coal he was gonna drop in your stocking. Naughty, naughty. Sun., Dec. 20, 2 p.m., free, P.O.P.E., 1501 E. Passyunk Ave., 215-755-5125.
