Gone are the days when "homeland" meant simply the place where you were born. Thanks to security breaches both in the U.S. and abroad, it's become a word that conjures much angstier feelings. "The U.S. government uses the term as a means to incite fear and uncertainty in the name of patriotism," says Collette Copeland, curator of a 14-artist video installation which fleshes out the loaded concept. Using documentary, faux documentary, animation and collage, the exhibit takes small but significant swings at a towering bully of displacement, fear and insecurity.

Opening reception Wed., Jan. 20, 6 p.m., free, through March 5, International House, 3701 Chestnut St., 215-387-5125, ihousephilly.org.
