No one honors Martin Luther King Jr. Day like Philly, thanks to a 15-year commemoration at the National Constitution Center and the city's healthy dose of civic pride. "Because of the historical DNA of the city, which involves the founding of citizen engagement," says NCC president David Eisner, "Philadelphia has been the national leader in making the day a meaningful one of service." The celebration at NCC will include a performance by musical duo Two of a Kind, a student rendering of the "I Have A Dream" speech and a philanthropic quilting project organized by Women Against Abuse. The first 1,000 guests will be admitted for free, so get your MLK party started early.
Mon., Jan. 18, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., free-$12, National Constitution Center, 525 Arch St., 215-409-6600, constitutioncenter.org.
