"Erma" Jewelry Line Launch
To many fans, the defiant ridge of roosterish hair and pronounced beak of Bob Dylan circa Highway 61 Revisited are as well-known as the contours of their own face. In the most striking piece of her just-launched jewelry line "Erma," Emily Glaubinger expresses a personal regard for Dylan in a cameo styled like the cut-paper silhouettes popular in the early to mid-1900s. "I wanted to make something I could really stand behind, that meant something to me," says Glaubinger. "A lot of people think it's an old lady with a strange nose, though."
Trained at Rutgers as a graphic designer, Glaubinger spends most of her time freelancing for companies like Disney, Nike and Jeep, but began designing jewelry a few months ago when she couldn't find anything worth buying. "I use my graphic-design training to cut all the beads," Glaubinger says of her laser-cut acrylic and wood pieces. The Erma line, which debuted at San Francisco's Renegade Craft Fair this past December, includes necklaces, earrings, rings and post-modern "dreamcatcher" pendants. The ermadid.com Web site has just a splash page up for now, but you can buy pieces at ermadid.etsy.com.
