"My Right Self"

A slew of recent media events — Pregnant Man, as well as proposed legislation on workplace discrimination — have shone a light on the transgender community. They’ve also generated more mileage for “My Right Self,” an exhibit by local photographer Arthur Robinson Williams, which opens locally next week. It features 25 color images of five trans people and couples (Jake, Stripes  is pictured), who each composed revealing text to accompany the works. The striking collection has not only been displayed at gallery spaces, but also at national health seminars to educate the medical community, which Williams says is blind to many trans health issues. “The idea is to provide a basic understanding of trans and LGBT health,” he says, “so doctors feel more comfortable working with these types of patients.” Opening reception Fri., Jan. 29, 6-8 p.m., free, William Way Community Center, 1315 Spruce St., 215-732-2220, waygay.org.

Scene's One-Year Anniversary Party

The ’mos in South Philly have been crowding into Scene, the monthly rager at Adobe Café, but developer Tracy Buchholz says outsiders haven’t budged from their Center City comfort zone. To celebrate its one-year anniversary and create harmony among the gays, she’s shifting the party to Voyeur, a central locale that’ll allow more space and variety than the previous digs. “A good thing about having the party there is being able to feature two types of music,” she says. The bilevel mega-club provides ample room for a mix of hits, with DJ Carl Michaels on the main floor and Lil Sis’ drop-it-like-it’s-hot hip-hop jams upstairs. Sat., Jan. 23, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., $5, Voyeur, 1221 St. James St., 215-735-5772, voyeurnightclub.com.

Hydrate

You won’t be able to throw on trunks and hit the shore anytime soon, so if you’re feeling antsy for water escapades you should head to Hydrate, the country’s only gay indoor water park event. The 58,000-square-foot, 84 degree venue houses water slides, lazy rivers, hot tubs and more. Plus DJs Rhino Starr and Justin Ryan will be spinning, so you could just keep your clothes on and enjoy the view from the dancefloor as the muscle-headed show-offs splash around in the pool. Sat., Jan. 30, 10 p.m.-2 a.m., $26, Sahara Sam’s Oasis, 535 N. Route 73, West Berlin, N.J., 856-767-7580, twistedlife.com.
