Todd Lowell, longtime buddy of graffiti artist Steve Powers and owner of Northern Liberties Tattoo, knows a good thing when he sees it. Lowell recognized that the brilliant, pleasantly sentimental murals Powers created around Philly in conjunction with the Mural Arts Project would translate beautifully into flash tattoos. Powers has put together new and old signature designs that will be inked onto people by Lowell's employees for one week only. Next Saturday, there will also be a soiree next door at Exit Skateshop, where Powers will sign A Love Letter for You ($19.95, Free News Projects), the coffee-table book documenting his murals; and draw tattoo stencils onto people before sending them off to the tat chair. "It's exciting," says Lowell of knowing Powers personally. "It's like watching young Warhol grow up."
