In a world full of uncertainties, it's nice to know that you can at least build your own bike on which to pedal away from the apocalypse. Every Sunday this month, Neighborhood Bike Works is teaching folks of all experience levels how to construct a custom ride from their own spare parts or ones purchased on-site. "We don't intend to compete with bike shops," says executive director Andrew Dyson (pictured). "This program is a means to raise money to help fund our after-school programs and foster a cycling community in Philadelphia." Plus, if you make your own bike, says Dyson, it's that much easier to repair down the road. "We aim to help you get the most out of your bike, know it intimately, be able to take it apart and put it together. Once you know that, it'll never let you down."
