What with the streaming video, podcasts and Snookis of today, it's easy to forget the original Americana way to entertain yourself in the evening: radio shows. Luckily, the long-running A Prairie Home Companion has kept that medium alive since 1974. Hosted by Garrison Keillor, the variety show combines a strong foundation of folk and bluegrass music with smart radio drama and comedic storytelling. Tonight, the beloved hootenanny will be broadcast in sound and video live from its home theater in Minnesota to the entire country, with special guests Elvis Costello and folk duo Robin and Linda Williams. If you've got a granny, you should bring her along.

I think that it would be a really fun thing to watch live on tv or in a theater. I really think that a prairie home companion has been a great program that has been running for years.
