Technically: Sexagenarian husband/wife team Fred and Toody Cole's Pierced Arrows is a different band than defunct Oregon forest grunge outfit Dead Moon, which they also fronted. Practically: Different drummers notwithstanding, Pierced Arrows is Dead Moon, and their second effort a pitch-perfect entry into the Fred Cole songbook. So yes: There are hard-living rockers with off-key vocals about how love is strange ("Love Is Strange"), premature inhumation ("Buried Alive") and how you've just got to seize the moment ("This Is the Day"). But: Despite a focused thematic repertoire, a backwoods bravado — a swagger that says I'll ace you in a knife fight and write a song about it by sundown — oozes irresistibly from each song they've ever performed.
