over the mooney
Influential writer and comedian Paul Mooney has had his hand in a number of comedic milestones. His most fruitful collaboration was with Richard Pryor, penning some of his stand-up and Saturday Night Live appearances. As the head writer for Pryor's variety show, Mooney gave many funnymen (and women) their start (Robin Williams, Sandra Bernhard), continuing that success later in the same capacity for In Living Color. As of late, Mooney took on Chappelle Show's Negrodamus, answering some of life's more unanswerable paradoxes (i.e. why white people love Wayne Brady). For his standup, Mooney plans on leaving his audience with a truer, if not funnier, sense of the past. "It's knowledge. There's always a message in my comedy and you may not get it that night," says Mooney. "It's like time bombs. It'll get you a week later. You'll understand."
