Tabu Lounge & Sports Bar
200 S. 12th St., 215-964-9675, tabuphilly.com.

Owned by the same team that runs Mikey's American Grill at 3200 Chestnut, Tabu is a sporty redo of long-running Gayborhood dive Sal's on 12th. The ground floor features a bunch of flat-screens (sports packages galore) and a bar with 12 beers on tap; game room with billiards and darts in the basement. The upstairs boasts a second bar and a lounge area. Chef Steve Corson is doing a bar-style menu with twists: There are wings, burgers, sliders and salads, but there are also large-plate options like butternut squash tortelloni, grilled hanger steak and salmon baked in parchment paper. They're open daily from 11 to close. More pictures and the full menu on Meal Ticket.

John Yusko opened this neighborhood deli on March 1. A carpenter by trade, Yusko teamed with his wife for Gaetano's, which offers a.m.-to-p.m. eats: breakfast sandwiches, doughnuts and coffee in the morning, and sandwiches, hoagies, wraps, panini and more for lunch and dinner. From-scratch dishes, like chicken cutlets and soups, switch up daily. They're open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. More on Meal Ticket.

King Kabob
38th and Spruce streets.

The King Kabob cart, which chills on the corner of 38th and Spruce from 10 to 4 Monday to Saturday, offers skewered goodies topping out at five bucks. Renditions include Caribbean chicken (breast meat, pineapple, cantaloupe and bell peppers with a island-style marinade) and a steak and salsa stick with sirloin, onions, peppers, lemon pepper seasoning and a savory sauce. There are $3 fruit kabobs for dessert, too. More on Meal Ticket.
