What You Say

APPALLED BY OUR AUDACITY

I am appalled by the audacity of the advertisement on the March 4 cover! You have got to be kidding me. What's with the quarter-page ad on the front cover? You just lost all credibility as a fair and balanced news source. Not to mention, a Comcast ad, to boot! And it's perfectly book-ended with a huge full-page [Comcast ad] inside, as well. What next, get a gaudy, reflective new font and change your name to Philadelphia's independent Suzanne Roberts Weekly?

THE W.C. FIELDS OF BASKETBALL

Team trainer turned team president Pat Croce was like a W.C. Fields of basketball (see "Bring Back Croce," Sports Complex, March 4). He did wonders for the Sixers, even skydiving to prove his point. He was a pure showman who knew the art of basketball, and everybody loved him, fans and players alike. The group of players the Sixers have now would never be on the court with Pat. This group is the most inconsistent group of basketball players with high salaries that was ever assembled. Either they don't want to play for Eddie Jordan, or Jordan just doesn't have the oomph to put them over the top. The leadership came and went with gimpy-kneed Allen Iverson. Andre Iguodala will some day be a superstar, for a different team. He definitely doesn't want to play for the Sixers. Elton Brand is a load; he should be on the bench and have one of the rookies replace him. The morale of the young guys is demoralizing. Lou Williams in a Twitter fight showed immaturity. Life finally caught up to Allen Iverson. He snubbed his nose at everybody for years; now his nose is getting shorter. With a Herb MaGee [or] Pat Croce-type showmanship on the team, watch it turn around.

PROVE IT, SPECTER

Arlen, there's still time to really prove you're a committed Democrat: Withdraw from the race, save the party a divisive primary and support a younger, abler candidate in Joe Sestak (see "Reinventing Arlen," Cover Story, March 11). Give Pennsylvania a second true Democratic senator. Instead of costing us this seat, help us save it. Even at age 80, you can understand how this makes sense.
