Same-Sex Ballroom Dance Competition

Prove the old adage that says the queers are a little "light in the loafers." The Philadelphia Liberty Dance Challenge gathers the city's fiercest limp-wristed boppers to compete in their fifth annual same-sex ballroom dance competition. Co-organizer Gene LaPierre says spectators can enjoy an all-day dance-off that features a mishmash of age-old ballroom styles, like the fox-trot, the waltz and, of course, the cha-cha. The winner will be crowned North American champion and given the opportunity to show off their fancy footwork at the 2010 Gay Games in Cologne, Germany. Sat., March 27, 9 a.m.-11 p.m., $15-$40, Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St., 609-706-5287, philadelphialibertydancechallenge.com.

Pink Pub Crawl

We had a trying winter, so why not pay homage to the first weekend of spring by sipping away those snow-sludge blues? Join Nightlifegay.com founder Bruce Yelk on his Pink Pub Crawl, a two-year-old biannual event celebrating LGBTQ nightlife by guiding a procession of drunken revelers to four bars in the Gayborhood. Yelk says Pink Pub is a great way to meet fresh faces because it draws a diverse crowd that may not typically frequent these locales. "The last event drew 260 people," he says. "They came from all areas of the city and even Jersey and Reading, Pa." This time, the trail begins at Tavern on Camac and end with a last hoorah at the after-hours hot-spot Voyeur. The ticket price, which is discounted if you wear pink, includes admission and one refreshment at each stop. Sat., March 20, 9 p.m., $20 (those wearing pink)-$30 (not wearing pink), Tavern on Camac, 243 S. Camac St., 215-545-0900, nightlifegay.com.

Flyers Gay Community Night

You may think gay sports fans are few and far between, but Larry Felzer, organizer of Gay Community Nights for the Phillies and Sixers, says LGBTQ fans have had such a staggering presence at b-ball games that he decided to create one for the Flyers, as well. To test the ice, Felzer has reserved 100 seats specifically for the gays and hopes to see that number expand in subsequent years. He says this particular game is sold out to the public but a few seats are available to GCNers; snag your tickets online with the code 704GCN. Your dad would be proud. Thu., March 25, 7 p.m., $30, Wachovia Center, 3600 S. Broad St., 215-336-3600, www.philadelphiaflyers.com/promocode.
