Movie Monday: Black Dynamite
Geek mecca Geekadelphia held its first movie night in February, screening Zombieland to 400 corn syrup-covered fake corpses. Now, the blog teams up with every gal's favorite dating dish, Shmitten Kitten, for a cult movie night-meets-dance party. After indulging in blaxploitation send-up Black Dynamite, boogie down in a '70s-themed costume contest. As SK co-founder Anna Goldfarb puts it: "[We're] the Pam Grier to Geekadelphia's Rudy Ray Moore." Mon., April 26, 8 p.m., $3, Trocadero, 1003 Arch St., 215-922-6888, thetroc.com.
Locust Moon Opening
It's not hard to come across stories of Video Library, a video rental and comic book store in University City. When it closed last year, a cultural center was lost. "It was pretty clear to me that the place was loved by the community," says Chris Stevens, a local graphic novelist. Stevens is the co-owner of Locust Moon, a new store opening in Video Library's former digs that will remain true to the space's comics, movie and video game traditions. Stevens hopes when Locust Moon opens — with a signing by artist Farel Dalrymple — that community is reignited. Wed., April 14, 4-7 p.m., free, 4040 Locust St.
