Nerds everywhere squeal! Free Comic Book Day is pretty self-explanatory, a holiday to celebrate the graphic land of the comic book. Numerous Philly spots will be celebrating with appearances, characters and, most importantly, free comics. At Brave New Worlds (45 N. 2nd St., 215-925-6525), a legion of Storm Troopers, as well as Spiderman and an eight-foot-tall Hulk, will jump outside their respectives pages and take pictures with fans. Members of the Philly Cartooning Society will draw on site. The Ontario Street Comic Shop (2235 E. Ontario St., 215-288-7338) is keeping the celebration going for a week. "We know that everyone can't set their schedule for Free Comic Day, so we extend it so everyone can enjoy," says owner Bill Fink. Like many other affiliated stores, Ontario Street will debut two free comics: one tied in with the release of Iron Man 2 (opening Fri., May 7), and War of the Supermen, a new storyline from DC Comics. It's also featuring comics for the younger crowd, with faves like Sonic the Hedgehog. Other comic hot spots like Fat Jack's Comicrypt (2006 Sansom St., 215-963-0788) and Atomic City Comics (642 South St., 215-625-9613) promise freebies of all varieties.
