Calling MOMIX a dance company just doesn't do it justice. It's so much more, especially when it comes to visual trickery. These folks are true masters of optical illusion — or, to crib the term used by the troupe's artistic director, Moses Pendelton, "optical confusion." He says the shows are "designed to excite brain cells and stimulate creativity." That they do, with surreal imagery and fanciful constructs built by bodies of the performers, plus video, shadows and clever props. The Washington, Conn.-based MOMIX is always a big hit when it blows into town; this stand should be no exception when it presents Botanica, inspired by seasonal transformations. If you thought nature was cool, wait till you see this.
