Local Abundance, a new initiative from sustainable seafood purveyor River & Glen designed to educate restaurants and diners about regionally sourced ingredients, is celebrating its launch with a dinner at 10 Arts. The seven-course seafood prix-fixe will feature oysters, scallops, Alaskan halibut and king salmon prepared by chef de cuisine Jennifer Carroll. At the start of each course, Carroll will speak about using local ingredients; River & Glen's James MacKnight will discuss principles of sustainability. The third annual Bucks County Chocolate show will feature practical demonstrations, an educational exhibit illustrating a cocoa pod's journey from "bean to bar" and, of course, an array of chocolate products to sample and buy. Manuel Aczualdez, U.S. ambassador for Tequila Don Julio, will swing by Stephen Starr's El Vez this Tuesday to share his knowledge — and four kinds of tequila — with thirsty patrons. Aczualdez's wares (a blanco, a reposado, an anejo and Don Julio's special 1942) will be accompanied by a special fiesta menu — or is it the other way around? It's a boozy meeting of the minds in West Philly next Wednesday, as Dock Street brewery teams with chef Daniel Stern's MidAtlantic for a three-course beer dinner. Dock Street will pour its West of Center Pale Ale, Bohemian Pilsner and Rye IPA to accompany eats like smoked bluefish, goat cheese dumplings and a petite reuben sandwich.
