And to think Best Fest was almost called the "Majestical Festival." Six years ago, six college friends from Virginia, new to the city, thought the green park across from their Baltimore Avenue house would be perfect for a show. Their idea morphed into an annual festival in which art and food vendors will surround Clark Park's Dog Bowl while 14 local bands and performers provide free outdoor entertainment. Best Fest typically attracts the younger crowd, but event organizer Kassie Richardson said planners want this year's lineup to reach out to different ages. Expect to experience everything from noise bands to dance performances, like punky Reading Rainbow, hip-hop crew Chosen Dance Co. and the Unidos da Filadelfia Samba School.
Sat., June 5, 1-7 p.m., free, Clark Park, 43rd Street and Chester Avenue, clarkpark.info.
