The scene from Peace Valley Lavender Farm is one of rippling rows of color, from deep purple to almost-white, spanning across the hillside, topped off by a breathtaking view of Lake Galena. Leave the hubbub of this weekend behind for the serenity of this Doylestown stead and take a free tour with knowledgeable growers Patti and George Lyons, with an added option to pick your own blossoms and see a distillation demo of essential oils. Nota bene foodies: After raising a few rows for French chefs in the area, the Lyons gained the confidence to strike out on their own with this enticing crop. It has been 10 years of sweetly scented success since. My personal endorsement: the herbes de Provences, heavily laced with lavender, will change your way of cooking forever.
