Call off the re-enactment and tell Ma you won't be home for hardtack. From now until the end of summer, the Germantown Historical Society displays "Drums, Fifes, and Flags: Communication in Military Life," which illustrates the many uses of musical instruments and flags during the Civil War. But if you're not a music aficionado or history buff, the many pieces of local antiquity can teach you a thing or two about the state you live in.
