Amorosi on the news, nightlife, gossip and bitchiness beats.

Published: Aug 25, 2010

I did a lot of things 10 years ago that I'm not keen on now — worry about Y2K, buy stock in Atkins, think highly of M. Night Shyamalan. One aspect of my life that thankfully never went out of style or favor, or dropped in value or adoration, is me loving and marrying the beautiful, delightful Lady Glamorosi. Yay us. Happy 10th anniversary.

► Weird jazz orchestra West Vienna do a Fire Museum benefit for the Highwire Gallery with Comoros, Aug. 28, outdoors not far from the gallery at 22nd and Frankford. Go.

► "Everyone loved me there and I dug them but I couldn't make it work. All the press and goodwill didn't make it so that I could make a living," says Mississippi native Mark Coates, whose Bebe's Barbecue on Ninth Street lasted from April 2009 to June 2010, to say nothing of time spent building his restaurant since November 2008. Bebe's is now officially closed for good as opposed to just-for-summer, as previously discussed amongst Philly foodies. "It was the foodies and the bloggers who ate here," laughs Coates. "But my location under the awnings — I just couldn't get people through the door." Coates is looking at a ribs vending truck with locations at Temple and UofP.

► Trucking? Jose Garces' bottlecap-covered Guapos Tacos is scheduled to debut on Sept. 6 between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. outside of Amis. Rumor has it that Garces' wheelman will be Mikey the Cop. Meanwhile, Garces Trading does Aug. 29's farmers market on Headhouse Square, and JG Domestic at the Cira will hold job auditions starting Sept. 1.

► Filming begins in October for Hysteria — about the birth of the vibrator in Victorian-age England — starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Rupert Everett based on a story by Daily News Tattle-r Howard Gensler. Is it intimate knowledge of the vibrator that made Gensler rhapsodize so? "It was more my fascination with people who do things first," says Gensler. "Who thought that was a good idea?" Besides, Gensler goes on, "the vibrator had a very respectable upbringing. It was decades before it was seen as a sex toy." Indeed. Congrats.

► Raconteur Harry Jay Katz'll marry Debra Cruz Dec. 22 at his 96-year-old-mum's penthouse apartment in Bala Cynwyd. "My pal, Judge Gary DiVito, will officiate," says HJK. Mark yer calendars.

► Le Meridien's Amuse restaurant just started a $30 lunch that includes your choice of three martinis or three highballs. They claim you don't have to drink 'em all at one sitting (there are vouchers about) but that just makes you a wuss.

► Speaking of lotsa liquor, Dani Mari's Vampire bar crawl (named after her new single) is Aug. 26. It starts at Lickety Split, and ends there, too, with the midnight debut of "Vampire"'s video. Boo-ze.
