Dance

The uncoordinated Wii Fit player in me will always be jealous of Gabrielle Revlock's hips. The Philadelphia dancer/choreographer presented her one-woman (plus one-violist) piece, Indivisibility, at last year's Live Arts-hosted A.W.A.R.D. Show, and blew us all away with the stamina and raw emotion required to complete 30 nonstop minutes of dancing while Hula-hooping. She didn't win the big A.W.A.R.D., but she's giving us one last chance to marvel at those gyrating body parts at this year's Norristown DanceFest (Aug. 27-28, danceboxoffice.com). Gabrielle, I hope our Miis never meet.

Blues

Talk about your heritage. Without the original "Hook," urban blues would have been a whole lot poorer. John Lee Hooker Jr. apprenticed with dad and keeps that juicy sound vibrant and alive, low- and slow-grooving. The kid plays two sets a night at Warmdaddy's on Friday and Saturday (Aug. 27 and 28, warmdaddys.com).

Dvd/soul

Don Cornelius' dream of a youth-quaking African-American counterpart to American Bandstand left the station in 1971. Soul Train had more than just funky-fashion-forward musical productions from the likes of Stevie, Sly, Marvin, Tina and Aretha. You can't forget the dance-offs, Cornelius' sartorial splendor, or the black-and-proud ads from its sponsors. And you won't, thanks to the new Best of Soul Train DVD collection (TimeLife.com) from the show's most-acclaimed era ('71-'79).

Book/comedy

I find Kristen Schaal incredibly hilarious, but in very small doses. So the thought of her The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex (Chronicle, July 28), with Richard Blomquist, was at once titillating and terrifying. Imagine an America (The Book)-style send-up of sex tomes, but with Jon Stewart's understated glibness replaced with Schaal's madcap ditziness. Yeah, it's essentially 190 extensively illustrated pages worth of dick and vag jokes, some of which are quite good (Where's Wildo? The Taint-o-Logues), many of which are just a little too easy.
