Amorosi on the news, nightlife, gossip and bitchiness beats.

Published: Sep 1, 2010

► There're a few things I learned about my Italian Market since last week's Ninth Street cover story mega-mix: That the recently liquor-licensed-up Teri's is a mob scene on weekends (must be the Pink Pussycats), and that they'll do live stuff with the Living Sample soon. That concerned/tattooed citizens are opening a tat parlor/skateshop annnyday on Ninth's lower half. That the tonier kids dig the idea of Santucci's square pizza on 10th. That Agnes Bonuomo Viso of 910 S. Ninth fame appeared on WHYY-TV 12's South Philly Italian Style special ("people still ask about my peppers and eggs") as well as the Discovery Channel's Home Matters. And that 910's new owner, Nick Nastasi Jr. of Nina's Trattoria, used to cook at La Veranda as a hobby in the '90s. (That's where Nick found Nina's sous chef — Guido Vizzachero.) That Emilio Mignucci's Pronto wine-n-cheese boite ain't opening until 2011 despite having a liquor license. That the talks between Sabrina's and Sulimay's for a rumored takeover of the Fishtown breakfast nook are just that — talks. (I hear Sulimay's punk-rock owners are scared of the way the Sabrina's boss stares at them.) That the old guys down dere love using the phrase "grandfathered in." Abbondanza.

► Speaking of which (sort of), it looks good that Tony Danza'll hit the Piazza Sept. 30 for a day-before-the-première big show regarding A&E's Teach. Da Piazza was his home and spots like Darling's were his hangouts while filming. Just don't wear the brown eye-shadow you wore in The Nail, K Ton?

► Slicked back avant-blues harmonicats Shakey Lyman & Co. do double duty Sept. 6: an early shift at Tritone and a late Fringe-edition soul jam at National Mechanics.

► You know that David Grasso/Fishtown concert warehouse/possible Live Nation partnership I Icepacked back in July? It's heating up and will gain traction once City Council comes back from recess.

► You know (thanks, Brownstoner) that the building holding yummy Ugly American is for sale. Boo. But so is the spot housing Cent' Anni on South Seventh Street. Yipe.

► When Meatman/one-time local Tessco Vee signed Touch & Go: The Complete Hardcore Punk Fanzine at Brickbat last week, a bell went off — we have our own punk releasing his books. Rich Hillen Jr. (ex-World Famous Crawlspace Bros.) just self-published his fanzine The Best of the Serial Killer Coloring Book. The wise Hillen is also releasing a poetry/journal jawn, Dangers of a Confessional Mind, and the novel he's been writing for years, Yellow Socks: Confessions of a Non-Don Juan, next week. Get buying at lulu.com.

► Another punk hard at work on a new book is David Grazian. The UPenn sociology prof and author of On the Make is writing a book about zoos. Our zoo. Your zoo.
