Raul Malo went to Texas to record his latest, but Saints and Sinners (Fantasy) echoes with some of that midcentury Nashville sound. Dare we say it's got a Glen Campbell/John Hartford style? Let's dare. A nod to conjunto is made official with the addition of San Antonio accordion great Michael Guerra to Malo's band full of horn players. Romance exists here, mostly filtered through a jaundiced tejano-tonk lens, but hey, I'll fall for the boleros with pedal steel anytime.
