To mark the Jewish Film Festival's 30th anniversary, the Gershman Y is screening 14 independent films from 14 countries. "We chose films that we felt did something brave, challenged themselves," says director of programming Olivia Antsis. Included in the courageous lineup is Breaking Upwards , the first feature film for Daryl Wein, who collaborated with girlfriend/actress Zoe Lister-Jones ( Salt, The Other Guys, The Good Wife ) to document the experience of trying an open relationship; Mary and Max , an adult Claymation about loneliness, desperation and unlikely friendships; and The Infidel (pictured), which uses comedy to make a statement on overcoming Muslim-Jewish animosity.
Nov. 6-21, various times, $10-$15, Gershman Y, 401 S. Broad St., 215-545-4400, pjff.org.
