Yes, Aloe Blacc does "I Need a Dollar" at the beginning of HBO's How to Make It in America, but he's no recent phenom. Currently residing on the Stones Throw label, the socially charged singer-songwriter has been around since 1995. Whether doing hip-hop, soul or Spanish versions of John Legend songs, Aloe Blacc scores points with the old heads as well as hip-hop purists.
