Here's one Christmas Carol where resting your eyes won't make Charles Dickens roll over in his high-minded grave. Allens Lane Art Center presents A Christmas Carol: A Radio Play, encouraging audiences to be all ears. Expect booming sound effects and dramatic voices from 10 actors, who'll present a live version of the classic holiday story — sans tacky cardboard set and drab, era-questionable costumes. "It's all about using your imagination," says Craig Stover, executive director of Allens Lane. So, you want to imagine Scrooge as a radioactive earthworm — or as a bare-chested Ryan Reynolds? Go for it.
Fri., Dec. 17, 8 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 18, 4 and 7 p.m.; Sun., Dec. 19, 2 and 6 p.m.; $18-$20, Allens Lane Art Center, 601 W. Allens Lane, 215-248-0546, allenslane.org.
