Yes, "Renaissance music" and "exciting" can be used in the same sentence, especially if the Piffaro band is on hand. This terrific ensemble of sackbuts, shawms, tam-tams and other ancient instruments has now been tooting away for more than 25 years, and this weekend offers a holiday program to chase those winter solstice blues away, with their usual assortment of courtly bon-bons and raucous folk music. Guest vocalists are local favorite Laura Heimes, soprano; and New York tenor Philip Anderson.
