Here's a chance to stretch your film-geekdom beyond the big screen: The Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival's Documentaries & Dialogue series features five international movies on a variety of humanitarian topics, followed by discussions by those who have a personal connection to the films. Leading the pack is Ahead of Time, the tale of journalist and photographer Ruth Gruber, who will lead the conversation following the movie this Monday. Later installments will touch on the actions of the Roosevelt administration during the Holocaust, and the history of one of the largest waves of immigrants to Israel.

Every Monday, Jan. 10-Feb. 7, 7 p.m., $10, Gershman Y, 401 S. Broad St., 215-545-4400, pjff.org.
